PM plants tree under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign in Surat

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a tree in Surat on World Environment Day as part of the Ek Ped campaign and urged citizens to strengthen environmental conservation efforts for future generations.

The Prime Minister participated in the plantation drive on June 5 and highlighted the importance of protecting natural resources. He said collective action is essential to create a greener and more sustainable future.

The tree plantation formed part of the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, which encourages people to plant trees in honour of their mothers. The campaign has become a major public movement that combines environmental protection with a personal and emotional message.

Modi later shared details of the plantation activity through a post on social media. He called upon people across the country to take part in efforts that support ecological balance and increase green cover.

The Prime Minister said environmental protection should remain a shared responsibility. He added that planting trees can help improve air quality, conserve biodiversity and strengthen climate resilience.

World Environment Day highlights importance of conservation

World Environment Day is observed every year to raise awareness about environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices. Governments, institutions and citizens participate in activities that focus on conservation and climate action.

The Prime Minister said every individual can contribute to environmental protection through simple actions such as planting trees and preserving natural resources. He also stressed the need to safeguard nature for coming generations.

The plantation programme in Surat reflected the broader objective of encouraging public participation in environmental initiatives. Officials said such campaigns help create awareness about sustainability while motivating communities to adopt eco-friendly practices.

In his message, Modi reiterated the importance of collective commitment towards protecting nature. He urged citizens to continue supporting green initiatives and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.

The event added momentum to ongoing efforts aimed at increasing tree cover and promoting environmental responsibility across the country. Government agencies and local bodies are expected to continue similar awareness activities in the coming months.
