Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday alleged that the Congress blocked the Women Reservation Bill and delayed its implementation.
Addressing the media, he said the bill was linked to the delimitation process. He added that delimitation was essential to ensure fair political representation.
Kishan Reddy pointed out that India’s population had grown from 550 million in 1971 to over 1.4 billion. Therefore, he argued that increasing Lok Sabha seats would improve representation.
Women Reservation Bill tied to delimitation process
The Union Minister said the Women Reservation Bill would expand opportunities for women, Dalits, and tribal communities. He also stated that delimitation could address imbalances in constituency sizes.
He rejected concerns that the process would disadvantage southern states. Instead, he said the approach aimed to ensure balanced representation under a “Team India” framework.
Kishan Reddy accused the Congress of opposing key reforms. Moreover, he alleged that the party placed political interests above public welfare.
He also urged people to attend the “Jan Aakrosh Sabha” in Hyderabad. The event will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
