Jayant Chaudhary flags off India team for Taipei skills event

New Delhi: Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary flagged off the Indian contingent for the Taipei skills event ahead of the 2026 Taipei Capital Cup WorldSkills Invitational Tournament scheduled from May 26 to May 28 in Taipei, Taiwan.

The five-member Indian team will compete against participants from nearly 15 countries in the international vocational and technical skills competition.

The tournament will serve as a preparatory event before WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 and aims to promote technical excellence, workforce innovation and global collaboration.

Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Debashree Mukherjee and National Skill Development Corporation Chief Executive Officer Arunkumar Pillai attended the send-off programme along with senior officials.

Jayant Chaudhary encouraged participants to represent India with confidence and discipline while learning from international standards and global best practices.

He said international skill competitions strengthened technical capabilities and supported India’s broader skilling ecosystem.

Taipei skills event to test India’s young talent

India will participate in five categories during the competition.

Arjun Sumathi Vijayabashkar will compete in Mobile Applications Development, while Mohamed Mafaz Poonaikannan Rabi Ahamed will participate in Software Applications Development.

Muskan will represent India in Painting and Decorating, Md Seraj in Automobile Technology and Suresh Kumar Ganesan Meena in Digital Construction.

The contingent includes gold medal winners from the IndiaSkills National Competition 2025-26 along with candidates selected through the wildcard process.

This year’s tournament features 10 skill categories linked to smart manufacturing and digital transformation sectors.

The competition will also provide Team India with exposure to international standards before the 48th WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competition.
