Hyderabad: India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange alert for several districts in Telangana and warned of moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days.
The weather department said widespread rain is likely across the state on Wednesday and Thursday. Northern, eastern and southern districts may receive the highest rainfall during this period.
The districts under the Orange alert include Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanamkonda.
The IMD also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several areas. Therefore, authorities advised residents to remain alert and follow safety precautions.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is expected to reach the Kerala and Tamil Nadu coasts by Thursday. As a result, the advancing weather system could influence conditions across Telangana.
Orange alert accompanies thunderstorm warning
Several districts recorded significant rainfall on Tuesday. Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem received heavy showers through the night.
Furthermore, officials urged farmers to take precautionary measures to protect crops and agricultural activities. They also advised the public to monitor weather bulletins regularly.
In addition, authorities asked people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds. Emergency services remain on alert as weather conditions continue to evolve across the state.
