New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Communications Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani on Sunday said India Post revenue surged to ₹15,373 crore during the 2025–26 financial year, marking one of the department’s biggest financial milestones in its 170-year history.
During an interview with DD India, the minister said India Post generated around ₹11,500 crore revenue in 2016. He added that annual growth usually remained between ₹200 crore and ₹300 crore. However, the department recorded a sharp single-year increase of ₹2,100 crore in FY26.
Dr. Pemmasani credited the growth to a dual strategy that combined market-based target setting with workforce engagement. He also praised Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for improving institutional accountability and removing operational bottlenecks.
The minister said parcel and logistics operations emerged as a major growth driver for India Post. According to him, the segment registered nearly 70 percent growth due to digital integration and expanded partnerships with e-commerce companies.
Officials introduced OTP-based delivery systems, SMS tracking and UPI payment options to improve customer convenience. India Post also launched 24-hour and 48-hour Speed Post delivery services across six metro cities after completing pilot projects.
India Post revenue boosted by digital expansion
Dr. Pemmasani said the government invested ₹5,800 crore under the Advanced Postal Technology initiative as part of the IT 2.0 modernisation programme. The initiative aims to deliver fully digital end-to-end postal and financial services.
He said citizens would soon buy savings products and insurance policies online without visiting post offices. Customers would also receive digital certificates instantly and get maturity payments directly into bank accounts.
The minister stated that India Post Payments Bank currently distributes around ₹45,000 crore annually through Direct Benefit Transfer schemes. Officials also enrolled nearly 3.8 crore girls under the Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme.
Meanwhile, the department launched nationwide workforce training programmes to improve customer service and sales skills. Training sessions focused on transforming employee interaction from a transactional model to a customer-centric approach.
India Post also modernised urban post offices with digital counters and Aadhaar service facilities. In rural areas, officials expanded outreach programmes through Gramin Dak Sevaks to improve access to savings and welfare schemes.
